I can't tell you how many days I sit at my desk, fire up the computer, and sit there for hours, "working" on my writing. On some days I sit there for so long that I'm stiff when I finally rise from my desk. Unfortunately, hours have not equaled word count.
Thanks to recommended reading coming out of my kid's school, I've found the solution. Social Media Wellness: Helping Teens and Tweens Thrive in an Unbalanced Digital World by Ana Homayoun, contains lots of great information that I will share with my kid as he becomes interested in social media. It also contained a great productivity program that I hadn't heard of before, Pomodoro.
Pomodoro is a time management technique that breaks down work into twenty-five-minute intervals separated by five-minute breaks. Homayoun recommends that during the work periods, access to email, phone, and social media be restricted. She also recommended several apps that make timing easy. I downloaded one called Focus Keeper to my iPhone. For the two weeks that I've been using it, my productivity is through the roof! Love it!
